My research for phase 1's outcome will mainly based on Noh, which is a kind of classical music-dance drama performed with masks in Japan. I was fascinated by the unique looking and history of the Noh masks, The Noh masks include all kinds of ghosts, gods and humans, vividly representing the difference between good and evil.

How does the idea respond to the research?

My idea was to show the distinction between good and evil in Noh Mask by sketching the Noh mask. I also refer to Japanese calligraphy which usually seen besides the artworks. I particularly like the zigzagging lines and the malleability of the calligraphy. Therefor I want to imitate the Japanese calligraphy and combine it with my sketching of Noh Mask.

What materials and processes will you use, and how are they relevant?

Materials I need is mainly paper and pencils. But I wanted to draw the sketching on my ipad, as the final outcome will be easier to manage and adding elements. I will first sketch an evil mask and later a kind mask. Later I will try to layout these two masks in an interesting way. For the next step, I want to add typography in a style of Japanese calligraphy.. The whole process is just like completing a traditional asian paper art work. I will also consider the background to make it more retro.

What format will your outcome take and why ?

I would like to keep it small and digital. As I said I wanted to be easily managed and change.
